ACCEPTING REALITY

"I tell you the past is a bucket of ashes."
-Carl Sandberg

Freedom consists of the ability to experience challenges, resistance, and problems. It means realizing that through our past actions, we have created the situations in our lives today.

A natural tendency is to look for someone or something else to blame for our situations. We may hold "society" at fault, insisting that, because of our family backgrounds, racism, economic conditions, or just plain bad luck, we never had a chance. Or going the other direction, we blame ourselves: "If only I tried harder..."; "If I had been smarter..."

We begin to take responsibility for ourselves at the precise moment our eyes open to this obvious truth: THAT NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENED TO GET US WHERE WE ARE, NOW THAT WE'RE HERE, WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT HAPPENS FROM THIS MOMENT ON!

When we accept that there is nothing to blame, we are free to move forward on our journey.

Freedom is an inside job.
