PEOPLE
Many of us have failed in attempts at abstinence from destructive lifestyles by hanging on to people we perceive as friends. This may seem simplistic, but it's not. Even if we just want to check up on our old running partners, there is no guarantee that actions they take won't put us in jeopardy. It is best that we develop strength in our own program of recovery before we set sail on rough waters. If these people are our real friends, they will be supportive and willing to meet us in neutral locations without putting us at risk. We can better control situations that we have control over. If a person insists on a meeting that will put us at risk, they are not a friend. We may ask ourselves who will support us in living free and who will not.
